In October 2019, contemporary electric violinist Eduardo Bortolotti was invited as a guest lecturer and performer at the prestigious Beijing Contemporary Music Academy (CMA) in China.
As part of the cultural exchange within the framework of the Global Week of Mexico, the masterclass and performance focused heavily on the dissemination, performance techniques, and education of jazz violin, world music, and live looping setups.
International Masterclass: Modern Solutions for Strings
During the residency, students from the School of Jazz at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy explored innovative technical horizons for string instruments, including:
- • Improvisation Frameworks: Breaking traditional classical paradigms to build unique solo vocabularies in jazz, pop, and rock.
- • Rhythmic Textures & Chops: Implementing contemporary percussive techniques directly onto acoustic and electric violins.
- • Live Looping & Creative Sound Design: Utilizing multi-effects pedals and signal processing to expand the sonic capabilities of the modern violin.
